Former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani insists Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s health is failing. He doesn’t have any specifics but noted on FOX News Sunday that if the internet makes claims that it is, then it must be true.
“Go online and put down ‘Hillary Clinton illness,’ take a look at the videos for yourself,” Giuliani urged.
So I Googled “Hillary Clinton illness” immediately to find out what might be wrong with my presidential candidate of choice.
Oh no! “Parkinson’s disease EXPOSED!” said one blogger, Mike Cernovich, who wrote a book on living your life on your terms. And a physician in Kansas City said if Clinton didn’t take a blood thinner she would die of blood clots and/or an intracranial hemorrhage.
Were these just conspiracy theories? I thought I’d test the experiment on Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. I googled, “Donald Trump illness” and came up with the following:
He has “narcissistic personality disorder,” general “mental illness,” and is just plain “crazy.” Critics note that being a bigoted, racist asshole doesn’t get excused by terminology. Other critics delving into the Clinton health conspiracies would like to note that she also has been criticized for wearing too many pantsuits and frowns.
So the internet may not always be a reliable news source, even from an angry blogger with a self-published, self-help book.
“All you’ve got to do is go online,” said Giuliani. Okay, ex-mayor who once also said, “How come I don’t get to say the same things Obama says? And who elected him?” America did, and they probably read more than conspiracies on the internet. Also available here-
